It starts with figuring out what you want to do and believing it daily. Writing is one of the best forms of expression. Many people dream about writing a book and making money from their writing. The internet has made it easier to make that a reality.
I read Anthony Robbins's book Unlimited Power. It contains simple strategies anyone can use to change their mindset.
One of the things he talks about is the limiting beliefs we place on ourselves. We convince ourselves we cannot do things for whatever reason.
We define school as a place where if we don’t do well in school, that defines what we can do in the future. Of course, being a medical doctor is out of the question if you don’t do well in school.
But there is so much more you can do without the seal of approval from a school. You don’t need a college degree to be successful. You can earn a degree if you want, but it’s not necessary to be successful.
Here Is a Must
Remove your limiting beliefs.
Don’t be afraid to try and fail
Don’t stop until you achieve your desired outcome.
Ignore naysayers. Use it as your fuel to succeed.
Writing clarifies what you want and puts everything in writing for you to see. Before the internet and having a computer, I remember writing everything in a composition book. I still have many of my composition books. I’ve also noticed that I have come a long way since I started writing.
Compound Interest Works in Finance and Life
If you improve at a skill of 1% daily, you will be 1% better at your craft daily because each day is 1% better than the previous day. That is the law of compounding.
It comes down to two things:
Believe that you will succeed in what you’re doing.
Take action.
Reading about successful people helps you succeed because modeling is an effective learning strategy. As a teacher, I’ve used the modeling strategy of teaching and learning in my classroom.
Anthony Robbins also mentioned modeling in his book, which is about learning from successful people. Find out the strategies successful people use and model that in your situation.
I’ll give you two examples that you can do here on Substack because the feature is readily available for anyone to use.
Podcast
Video
Successful writers market their online writing businesses. They do everything they can to market their businesses, including creating YouTube videos and podcasts about their writing businesses.
They didn’t leave it to chance for someone to find their Substack newsletter. They made sure others on Substack and other platforms saw their writing business.
I recently started a Substack podcast and am working on episode 9. I’ve also started a YouTube channel specifically for writing. That’s modeling and marketing my work. Every writer will have different results and outcomes, but by marketing my writing business, I increase the likelihood that others will view my writing.
Anyone can create podcasts and upload videos on Substack. The tools are available, so why not use them for your writing business?
Final Thought
Be 1% better than you were yesterday by believing in what you do and doing it daily. The only race you must compare yourself to is what you did to get 1% better from yesterday to today. When you find what that is, repeat it daily.
Modeling other successful people is a great way to improve your online writing business. Here are two things I did to help my writing business.
I read other successful writers on Substack, and I did what they did to become successful.
I read books. Currently, I’m reading Unlimited Power by Anthony Robbins.
You can do more than you think you can do. Use the rule of compounding in your daily life. Be 1% better today than what you were yesterday.

Your article was really insightful. The emphasis on removing limiting beliefs and the power of compounding daily improvements is a genius idea. Your practical advice on modelling successful people and taking consistent action is also really helpful. Great article.
Continuous learning, reading, watching videos and listening to podcasts is definitely my main way I try to improve myself 1% at a time. 😊
