Newton's second law of motion states that Force = mass x acceleration (F = ma). Force is also a vector, having magnitude and direction. To move an object, a force and direction must be applied to it.
I used to write daily on multiple platforms, and that was the action I took to make money online. That was also the force I used to try to earn as much money as I could online. However, my directions were few and far between. What was my purpose for writing online? Did it solve a problem for others?
Many writers sell the dream of making money online. That is a good approach to take because many online writers want to make money by writing online daily. I make a small amount monthly from my writing, so selling the dream of making money online as a writer is hard.
Another way to make money online is by providing a product, service, and information the audience wants. I am finishing a real estate course to sit for the state exam in real estate. I placed another tab for real estate on my website and primary Substack account. Part of my writing will be about anything related to real estate in my area and throughout the U.S.
Since I started writing on Substack, I have been looking for that direction. I wrote often but didn't answer the important question, "How does my writing help my readers?"
I'll dedicate one part of my newsletter to real estate for my real estate business, which I plan to start after I retire from teaching. That would satisfy the Side Hustle part of my newsletter, Teaching, Writing, and Side Hustles.
In physics, direction is as important as the force component in Newton's second law of motion. In writing, direction is as important as writing daily or often online.
How does your writing help your readers?
Does it answer a problem for your reader?
I'm making a little over $100 monthly on NewsBreak and Medium combined. But starting a newsletter business is different than NewsBreak or Medium. Are you solving something your reader wants to know?
Final Thoughts
The topic of real estate covers many areas throughout the U.S. and the world. I'm at the start of something new in side hustles. I'm preparing for my second career in real estate after teaching.
I'd also like to use Substack to write about the many parts of real estate, including traveling and places not usually written about in the media. Come along for the journey as I write about real estate, travel, and my second career as a future real estate agent.
