I use different Strategies for Writing on Different Platforms
I schedule publishing articles in advance
During the past two years on Medium, I used the dartboard approach to writing. Whatever I wrote, I threw it at the board. If it stuck on the board, that was great. If not, I write something else and see if that article makes money. It was when I wrote on NewsBreak that everything made sense. I need to write for the reader. The easiest was writing for myself. The questions I ask myself now directly relate to what the reader will get from the article.
Here are the questions I try to answer in my writing.
1. How will the article benefit the reader?
2. Is my article answering a question readers might be asking?
3. Is there a purpose to my article?
4. Is my article easy to understand?
5. Is my article too short or long? Do I get my point across?
Medium
I'm trying a new approach to Medium. I'll write shorter articles - 200 to 250 words. I'll also schedule my articles at least a week in advance to lessen the stress of writing, editing, and publishing, all on the same day. I'll also send some to other publications. If they reject it, I'll place it in my publication.
Substack
I'll do the same and schedule my articles about a week in advance. I have one newsletter I write about writing and another about food, photography, and travel. I'd also like to increase my email subscription list on Substack.
NewsBreak
I found my niche. I review eateries, drive-ins, and restaurants. I also write about fun facts and interesting stories.
Final Thought
Planning and scheduling publishing in advance helps with being consistent at writing. It also frees up time to work at my second job as a math tutor.
Of the three, I enjoy writing on Medium the best, but NewsBreak is catching up. I enjoy the NB platform because their impressions, views, and reads are unmatched. They have the farthest reach. In a month, I plan to get monetized on the platform.
