This is my second podcast on Substack. It's been almost a year since my first podcast. I wanted to talk to you today about my teaching career. Success as a teacher means helping someone else succeed. If students succeed, I succeed.
For 27 years, I've been teaching students mathematics, hoping they will succeed after high school. I've taught more students than I can remember. I don't know where they all went after high school, but a few have returned to thank me for being their teacher.
I forgot what success meant as a teacher. Success means making someone successful. As a writer and a one-person business, it dawned on me that in order for me to succeed, I need to help others succeed. I didn't realize it until I read the book McDonald's by John F. Love.
The book accurately describes the founders of McDonald's fast food restaurant. Franchising and replicating a business is at the core of helping others succeed. For the franchise to succeed, the franchisee must succeed.
It's all about helping other to succeed. I've finally found the purpose and mission of my podcast. I've helped students succeed for over 27 years. Now I want to help writers in my situation succeed. Many writers have full-time jobs and write part-time.
My podcast is dedicated to helping others succeed. In it, I present ideas that online writers and content creators can use to help them succeed and earn money doing what they love.
I've spent my entire career as an employee and now a one-person business owner. I'm also learning the same things many of you are discovering by writing online. Here is my podcast mission statement:
To provide information that will help you succeed as a one-person business owner.
I'm in my fifth year of creating content online. There have been some successes and some setbacks, but the formula that helped me succeed as a teacher was helping others succeed. That's the same thing I intend to do with my podcast.
Many books will help you focus on what you must do to find out what works and what doesn't. At the core of the meaning of success is helping others succeed. One book I found encouraging is McDonald's Behind the Arches by John F. Love. He accurately describes how the McDonald Brothers hired Ray Kroc as a franchise agent to franchise the McDonald's business to the world.
At the heart of Ray Kroc's plan was to help one franchisee owner at a time. If they succeed, the company succeeds.
Here is a list I haven't always made, but I've noticed it has paid dividends quickly.
Read books about successful people.
Identify your mission statement for your one-person business.
Take a risk
Keep your day job while you build your one-person business.
Help others succeed.
I will provide information that will help you succeed as a writer or content creator online. Subscribe to my Substack Newsletter for information that will help you.
